Last week, the Columbus Lodge, Order of the Sons of Italy, defeated the Bellmore Young Guns 13-12, in an exciting round of softball played at Eisenhower Park. The victory was the Golden Lion's third in the last four games played in the Massapequa-based South Shore Softball League.

Scoring early was Golden Lion Glenn Rice, who delivered a two-out single, helping Dave Saviano score the first run lead. In the second inning, the Lion's first two batters were retired, but the team emerged to score six runs off seven hits. Daron Tripoli's three-run homer was the game's highlight.

The Golden Lions added two more runs in the fourth when Saviano scored off Tony Novarro's single. Later, Vincent Battista scored on a two-out single by Ed Bochynski.

The Young Guns shot their way back into the game with five runs in the sixth inning, and took the lead in the seventh, 12-7. A single by Joe Pasale and a walk by Daron Tripoli placed runners on first and second. With one out, outfielder Ron Gandolfo doubled to right center field, driving in the tying and winning run.

The Columbus Lodge softball manager Ed Bochynski confirmed the lodge has been in contact with Lightpath officials about volunteering at the Lightpath Long Island Golf Classic. The senior PGA tour will donate proceeds from the Golf Classic to Schneider Children's Hospital. The Golf Classic will take place from July 24-30 at Jericho's Meadowbrook Country Club.

"We're excited about this event and look forward to helping raise much-needed funds for the Schneider Children's Hospital," said Bochynski.
