Ahuvah (Bebe) Dushey, 77, of Massapequa, died on March 11, 2000. She was born in Israel in 1922 to Russian immigrants Bezalel and Berta Friedman. She attended the NYC High School of Music and Art and received an art degree from the University of Akron. She earned her master's degree in teaching from Columbia University.
A multimedia artist, Ahuvah had her works displayed in the Guild Hall of East Hampton and the Heckscher Museum in Huntington. Some are in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Islip Museum of Art, NC and Queensborogh Community Colleges. She was known for her metal welding jewelry. One of her outstanding works, "Docking with the Apollo Spacecraft," won first place at the Heckscher Museum in 1969.
Ahuvah later created wooden sculptures in tribute to the civil war in Yugoslavia. She taught art at her home through Empire State College of NY.
She is survived by her husband, Nathan; her children, Donald and Vincent Cherner; and four grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the I.J. Morris Fuenral Home, Dix Hills. Interment Mt. Ararat Cemetery.
Robert R. Cleveland, 78, formerly of Massapequa, died on March 16, 2000. Born in Batavia, NY, he attended Fredonia University, the Eastman School of Music and Hofstra receiving his master's degree. He was a music teacher at Amityville High School and the W. Islip School District and he was the district administrator, retiring in 1976. He was also the music administrator in the Bayport School District and taught music at Dowling College.
Mr. Cleveland, who played the trumpet and trombone, coordinated the halftime shows for the NY Jets from 1966 to 1980. His bands performed at Jets games at Shea Stadium and Giants Stadium, NY Nets games and NY Cosmos soccer games. He later directed marching band competition at Hofstra University. He also wrote music and had a music publishing company.
Mr. Cleveland is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Robert, Gail Guyre, Hope Ingardi, Julie Mellone and Barry; and 11 grandchildren.
