Look what it has taken for County Executive Gulotta and County Assessor O'Shea to recognize that the property tax system in Nassau County is flawed and antiquated.

The looming threat of junk bonds, a potential $150 million fiscal 2000 deficit, a county jail that runs up nearly $10 million in overtime. All this and only now are the Republican legislators agreeing that our property tax system is unfair.

The residents of Farmingdale, Massapequa, Wantagh, and Seaford have consistently been over assessed. Never before have the Republican legislators favored a property tax reassessment. One has to wonder if the Republicans are genuine with their proposal of a new property tax system.

In fact, Republicans are still claiming the current system is fair. So, do they favor reassessment or not?
