The December 1999 meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club was the club's annual Awards Night for 1999, and several club members from Farmingdale and the Massapequas were the recipients of special awards.
Colleen Kenny of North Massapequa received an award as one of the four "Most Improved" club runners for 1999. Colleen runs for the club's Fast Feet Women's Racing team, and her steady improvement has marked her as one of Long Island's leading runners.
Donna McMahon of Farmingdale is already long since recognized as being one of Long Island's top athletes at any age, and this year Donna was presented with the Club Award as the top woman runner in the 25-29 age group for 1999.
Finally, Norman Hershkowitz of North Massapequa has been a stalwart as a volunteer, assuring the success of Long Island running events for more than a decade, and the club honored his dedication this year by presenting him with one of the club's "Service Awards" for 1999.
The club extended congratulations to these three local champions.
