When Massapequa High School's Varsity Field Hockey Team scored 40 goals this year en route to their 13-4-0 season and the Nassau County Championship, they did more than set a team record. They raised money for the American Lupus Foundation with each goal.
In doing so they helped raise funds for their beloved coach, Pat Mirabile, who had to resign from her assistant Varsity post this summer due to her ongoing struggle with Lupus. The team, under the guidance of head coach Tisha Werner and assistant Melanie Stricker, decided that they would raise money in Pat's honor, to show her how much she still meant to the team.
The girls were very enthusiastic, and put full effort into scoring as many goals as possible. They ultimately raised over $2,500 for the Lupus Foundation. The money will be donated in Pat's name, right in time for the holidays.
