Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto is inviting residents to participate in a variety of fall and early winter recreation programs offered by the town.

"Our town is gaining a reputation as the 'Recreation Capital' of the northeast for a very good reason," Venditto said. "Every season of the year, residents of all ages have the opportunity to participate with their neighbors in recreational activities that feed the competitive spirit, meet the need to get out in the great outdoors, promote goods health and are just plain fun."

Recreational activities for the upcoming fall and winter season are as follows:

Ice Hockey Clinic Registration: Registration for the town's Ice Hockey Clinic will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, 7800 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury and on Tuesday, Nov. 16 from 5 to 10 p.m. at Bethpage Community Park, Stewart and Cherry Avenues. On Saturday, Nov. 13, there will also be an "Equipment Swap" at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park. The ice hockey clinic, which is open to town residents ages 6 to 15, is a co-ed instructional program taught by ice hockey coaches. The program will be held at the Bethpage, Marjorie R. Post and Syosset-Woodbury Community Park rinks. Participants are required to supply their own equipment and to donate a new mouthpiece in payment for the clinic. Proof of residency and a birth certificate are required for registration. For additional information, contact the parks department at 797-4125.

Ice Skating Lessons: During the ice skating season, which begins the day after Thanksgiving, On Ice & Company will offer ice skating instruction at the town's three ice rinks. Instruction will be available from beginner to advanced levels for residents ages 3 and older. Fees vary according to ability levels, class days and times. For more information, contact On Ice & Company at 921-8105.

Rob's Run" The 5K Rob's Run will be held at Stillwell Woods Park, Southwoods Road, Syosset, on Sunday, Nov. 28. Pre-registration for this cross-country race is $15 for individuals and $60 for teams and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt and post-race refreshments. After Nov. 26, registration fees will be $18 for individuals and $72 for teams. For more information, call the parks department at 797-4125.

Co-ed Walking Program: The town will begin the very popular Mall Walking Program at the end of January and continue it through the early part of March. For those who like to walk, but can't take the cold, it's a great way to stay in shape and make new friends in the process. Walkers can choose a program at either Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, or Broadway Mall in Hicksville. Those who feel really energetic can sign up for both. For further information, contact the Parks Department at 797-4126.

"In the Town of Oyster Bay, recreational activities are an integral part of daily living every season of the year," Venditto said. "This fall and early winter, make a point to participate in one of the above activities. I guarantee the experience will enhance the upcoming months."
