The New York Islanders hosted their second annual Win an Islander for a Day street hockey contest this past week in Huntington and Massapequa. The contest was open to all kids across Long Island ages 17 and under and was conducted during the months of June and July at the Islander team store location in the Broadway, Massapequa and Smith Haven Malls.

The two lucky winners, Brian O'Connor (age 9) of Huntington and Chris Testa (age 12) of Massapequa, were treated to a two-hour street game hosted by Islander forward and Long Island native Chris Ferraro. The games were staged in the Islanders portable street hockey rink directly in front of each winner's house.

"Being from Long Island, this was a great chance for me to once again get involved in the community," said Ferraro. Growing up in Sound Beach I played a lot of street hockey with my brother and our friends and it's great to see so many kids are playing out there right now."

"This contest is an excellent opportunity for local kids to get a first-hand taste of some National Hockey League action," said Islanders Director of Community Relations Tom Bigliani. "The Islanders are committed to new and innovative programs that are geared toward the youth of Long Island."
