Ever wonder just how fast you can run the classic one mile distance? The Greater Long Island Running Club is giving you the opportunity to find out in an informal, low key, non-race situation, and runners of every age and every level of ability are invited to join in and find out.
The club will be holding its 5th annual open One Mile Time Trials on Tuesday evening, Aug. 24, on the track at Walt Whitman High School on West Hills Road in Huntington, one block south of Jericho Turnpike.
There will be at least three separate heats, more if the turnout warrants. After a warmup that will start at 6:10 p.m. (and can be as long or short as each individual feels comfortable with), the first heat will start at 7 p.m. There will be at least one heat for women only, another heat for the faster men, and at least one more for the slower men. There will be a clock with your time displayed as you complete each quarter mile lap and cross the finish line.
There is no charge to enter the Trials. Just show up and sign up.
There will be lots of cheering people on the track. This event is most definitely not just for "elite" runners, but for everyone who wants to have some fun, and to test himself or herself at the classic one mile distance."
