Edward Travaglianti, chairman and chief executive officer of EAB, presented Elizabeth Giancola of Massapequa High School, an EAB/News 12 Scholar-Athlete Award. Giancola is one of 30 recipients from Nassau and Suffolk counties who were chosen for their outstanding achievement in the classroom, athletic competition, leadership, and service to their respective communities.

Giancola was an All-Division team co-captain, and the assist leader on the varsity basketball team that won the Long Island's Class A championships for three consecutive years. She has also played four years of varsity volleyball. Giancola served as vice president of the student government and of Amnesty International. Academically, she's ranked number two in a class of 519. Giancola has an SAT composite score of 1320 and a 96 unweighted average.

Giancola will use her $1,000 scholarship at Brown University in the fall.

The EAB/News 12 Scholar-Athlete program completed its 12th season and has provided over $300,000 to Long Island's high school students.
