Massapequa Park was proud to have the Massapequa Roadrunners host their 19th Annual Firecracker 5K Run in the village. The race took place on the afternoon of July 4 with approximately 500 runners, despite unusually hot weather.

The following are the winners of the run:

Massapequa Park: Donald Murphy, time: 17:29, Kathleen Shizume, time: 21:57

Wheelchair Winner: Peter Hawkins

Overall Winners: Cameron Stracher, time: 16:01, Regina Ronan, time: 18:08

Highlighting the Awards Ceremony at this year's edition of the annual 4th of July Massapequa Firecracker Run was the presentation of a check for $1000 by Long Island Track & Field and the KeySpan Foundation to the Massapequa-based YES Community Counseling Center.

The Massapequa Run is part of the new Long Island Track & Field Grand Prix of Long Distance Road Racing, which is sponsored by KeySpan, and the KeySpan Foundation is donating $1000 to each of the charities that are the designated beneficiaries of each of the 21 Races that make up the Grand Prix.
