Last week the Massapequa High girls' lacrosse team anticipated meeting Syosset for their last game of the season. The meeting hopefully would result in a Chiefs victory and a spot in the upcoming playoffs. However, East Meadow stood in the way.

Prior to their last home game, seniors were presented with bouquets by teammates. Left to right - Diana Rapacki, Kim Thompson, Lindsay Wolf, Meridith Costello, Lisa Torre, Danielle Andriano and Jamie Considine. Missing senior is Marissa D'Agosto.

The Chiefs did not expect the Jets to come at them so ferociously. About 15 minutes into me game the score was 5-0 East Meadow. Jamie Considine finally scored, followed by Danielle Andriano and Stephanie Petrucelli. The half-time score was 6-3. The opening of the second half was played at a slower pace as both teams worked on controlling the ball. The last few minutes were exciting as Gina Purpura scored and Petrucelli added two more, but it was not enough as the Jets won 8-6.

A disappointed Massapequa team traveled to Syosset on Thursday knowing that their playoff hopes were over. Against a swarming Syosset defense, the Chiefs offense was never able to get it going. The only Massapequa score was by Stephanie Petrucelli to prevent a shutout. The defense hung tough allowing only six goals. Diana Rapacki had 13 saves in goal.

In Conference play the Chiefs finished 9-3. At the onset of the season Coach Kristen Thieke hoped for a successful season and to rebuild a tradition of winning Massapequa lacrosse. It appears that Coach Thieke is on track.

The Massapequa High Lacrosse Booster Club has announced that Kimberly Thompson will be a scholarship player at Division 1, Wagner College, in Staten Island next year.
