An upcoming game at Shea Stadium, when the Pirates will be in town, is a must-see for Massapequa baseball fans. The community's own Kevin Haverbusch will be featured in the game.
Drafted by Pittsburgh in 1997, Kevin has wielded a blistering bat in each of the three stops, which he has already made on his move to the "Show."
In 1997 at Erie (Class A) he was Most Valuable Player in New York-Penn League. And in 1998 after hitting .331 for Lynchburg (Class A), he was promoted to Carolina (Class AA) where he continued his solid hitting with a .375 average.
Kevin currently is ranked the sixth best prospect in the Pirate organization by "Baseball America." And, he is proving that rating to be well-deserved while playing for Altoona (Class AA) this season. He has jumped off to a .364 start with three home runs and twelve runs batted in for his first nine games.
In addition to his excellent baseball talent while at Massapequa High School, Kevin also was an outstanding quarterback for the football team, and it is with great pride that the Massapequas follow Kevin's progress.
