Wouldn't it be wonderful, if people running for an office or position did it on their own merit and accomplishments? Local elections in Massapequa have truly gotten out of control! This includes village, school board, sports, etc. Anyone vying for these positions should be doing it because they believe in what it stands for, believe they are qualified and want to do their best for who or whatever they will be representing. The candidates should be able to achieve this on their own abilities, involvements and past history, not by discrediting or ripping apart their opponent. Things are taken out of context, blown out of proportion or embellished to cast doubt on the other person. Did you ever hear of the trickle down effect? All of these people have families, friends, acquaintances, etc., and now they are defending themselves and explaining what they really said or did. This should not be happening.
Competition is wonderful and healthy, as long as it is done fairly. You wouldn't allow your children to destroy someone else's reputation for self-gratification would you? Then why do you feel as adults you have that right? Please, let their be no more nasty, hateful elections. Let all future elections be something that the whole community can be proud of.
