Once again the Massapequa School Board and its superintendent failed to demonstrate their resolve on holding the line on education costs. They proposed an additional 10.4 percent increase to the school tax for the upcoming fiscal year. This is in addition to the increase the district received in October to pay for the long-term debt.

Since the board and its superintendent were able to mislead the residents last year with their dog and pony shoe they must be presuming that the residents are either gullible or complacent enough to approve a second increase this year.

It is almost unbelievable that even with the additional state education funding, our school board and superintendent are capriciously raising our taxes this year and virtually every year in recent memory.

Currently responsible governments are holding the line on property taxes and are taking constitutional steps to prevent tax increases. Our school board and its superintendent apparently disregard the tax burden they place on their district's residents.
