Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162 annual free throw "Hoop Shoot" basketball contest for boys and girls from ages 8 to 13 will be held at Massapequa Senior High School gym on Merrick Road across from Bar Harbor (Southward) Shopping Center in Massapequa on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Contestants will register upon arrival and then compete with children of their same age group and gender. This event, including registration, is cost free and has a "Say No to Drugs" theme. Participants should wear sneakers and should not bring their own basketball into the gym. Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers.

The three winners of the Lodge contest will be invited to participate in the Long Island East District contest on Feb. 6 in Islip. Contestants on a winning streak can go on to the regional, state, tri-state and, eventually, to the National Finals in Springfield, MA in April at no cost to his or her familiy.
