The Nassau County Police Department and Crime Stoppers are searching for the man who robbed the Greenpoint Savings Bank on 5100 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park on Dec. 21.
After two unsuccessful attempts to rob money from other locations earlier that day, a man believed to be between 50 to 60 years old, ended up leaving Greenpoint Savings with an undetermined amount money, according to 7th Precinct police reports.
At around 3 p.m., the man, claiming to have a weapon inside his coat, slipped a note to a Greenpoint Savings bank teller demanding $3,000. According to Greenpoint spokesperson, Richard Humphrey, the teller handed over some money including what's called bait money, which are marked bills that can be traced later on if found. Humphrey added that although, the exact amount of money stolen is unknown, he believes it was nominal.
Prior to going to Greenpoint, the same man is believed to have attempted robberies at Dime Savings Bank and Macy's located in the Sunrise Mall. At Dime, the man tried to get the money by passing a note demanding money to the teller. But in that case the teller handed back the note without giving him any money and he fled the scene. Another futile note-passing attempt was made at Macy's within the hour before the Greenpoint Savings robbery.
The white male is believed to be around 6' to 6'2'' tall with thinning brown and grey hair and blue eyes, according to the police. He was also believed to be wearing a navy blue jacket and a white pinstriped colored shirt on the day of the robbery.
