Winthrop Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, P.C., a major supporter of 1998 North American Wheelchair Championship Race, has signed on as a sponsor for the 1999 event, as well. The Wheelchair Championship Race attracted many of the world's best wheelchair racers to Long Island in June and race organizers said an even bigger and better race is expected for next year's running June 26.

The Wheelchair Championship Race is conducted under the auspices of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Road Runners Club (POBRRC), Long Island's largest recreational sporting club, with POBRRC Wheelchair Athletics Coordinator Nick Katsounis serving as the race director.
