The Mustang senior team traveled to W. Babylon and defeated the Eagles 33-0 on Nov. 1. The Mustangs now 5-2-1 are tied with Roosevelt for second place in the division.
The defense led by Eric Cole, Rocco Dionisio, Chris Erkens, Mike Hanna, Tim Melia and Keith Romeo, did not give up a first down all day.
Chris Cox took control of the offense and kept it rolling all day. The key offensive players this week, Joe Andriano, Vinny Bove, Joe Cadalino, Rashad Farmer, Mike La Bella,Ronnie Stevens, Chris Wicker and Jacob (Hammer) Lafond, did an outstanding job.
Lionel (L Train) Bullard scored twice this week with runs of 8 yards and a 1 yard dive. Lionel is having a great year and his lead blocking led the way for John Cornell to his 4 yard touchdown run. John, who is filling in at tailback, has scored seven times in the last three games.
The last two touchdowns were scored by two backup tailbacks John Simms and H. Brunson. Brunson's touchdown came on his first offensive play of the year. Chris Erkens kicked one extra point and Simms ran for the other PAT.
Massapequa Mustangs 18
Farmingdale Hawks 00
The Farmingdale Hawks visited the site of the Massapequa Mustangs intending to walk away with a victory on Nov. 1. But Massapequa had other ideas.
At the beginning of the first quarter, it did not look too good for the Mustangs as they were held on two series. On the third possession after sevral short gains and the ball on the Hawk 44 yard line, Frankie Ingenito ran for 66 yards and the score on a 4 back counter. The extra point was no good.
The ball traded hands several times during the remainder of the first half with the Mustangs having to hold tough on a couple of inopportune penalties. They held as the score was 6-0 at half time.
After half time, the ball again traded hands with the Mustangs holding on all occasions. It was not until the beginning of the fourth quarter that Delton Warrick took the ball off tackle on a 48 yard scamper for the score. The extra point was unsuccessful.
Later in the fourth quarter, Delton Warrick again took the ball 37 yards off tackle for the score, making the tally 18-0.
The Massapequa Mustangs 11-year-old travel team improved their record to 5-1, with a 34-19 win over the Inwood Buccaneers (3-3) on Nov. 1. The Mustangs, which are improving every week, played an almost flawless game on offense.
The offensive line of E. Sean McKenna, LT Francis Devlin, LG Donald Hartman, C Kervin Osemwengie, RG Kevin "Spanky" Mulhern, RT Peter Cardone and E Kevin Dooley did a tremendous job today, blocking and opening up holes all game so the running backs could run up huge yardage.
TB Darrel Young led the backs with 23 carries for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Fullback Jonathan Schneider ran the ball five times for 20 yards, W Brian Ckinton carried the ball four times for 10 yards, E Sean McKenna carried the ball five times for 15 yards and quarterback Michael Powers carried the ball two times for 25 yards and one touchdown.
The other touchdown came on a 23 yard pass play from quarterback Michael Powers to TE Kevin Dooley. The Mustangs' offense rolled off 62 plays for a total of 408 yards.
The 10-year-old travel team remains undefeated through six games as they outscored the Bellmore Braves 32-0, Nov. 1.
The explosive offense scored on the first play from scrimmage, but the play was called back on a questionable holding call. Michael Summus had run 45 yards after eluding a slew of Brave tacklers.
After marking off the 10-yard penalty, Matt Barnathon dropped back on the next play and hit Michael Summus on a fly pattern that went 55 yards for the touchdown. For Matt Barnathon it was his first touchdown pass this year.
The Mighty Mustangs controlled the line of scrimmage and scored two more times before the half. Everette Benjamin scored from 10 yards out behind the blocking of Doug Stolfi and Mike Andrianno.
Chris Hurst scored from 5 yards out after the defense forced a turnover late in the second quarter. In the second half D.J. Hancock ran for 40 yards for his first touchdown of the year. Nick "Chachi" Buschich converted the extra point kick.
The Mustang defense continues to shut down the opposition. Their aggressive play has limited the opposing teams to one touchdown this year.
Jets - 25
Broncos - 12
In a fast paced, high powered, physical game, the first place Jets defeated the rough and tough Broncos 25 - 12 on Oct. 31 for the Flag Division championship.
The Jets offense with Robert VonBargen at the helm, led the entire way, with Danny "Missle" Stolfi (one touchdown), Cornell "Touchdown" Warrick (one touchdown) and George "Lightening" Mathews (two touchdowns). The Jets offensive line with Liam "The Truck" Harley, Dan "The Man" Ebbeke, Jim "Bubba" Peterson, Griff "Rock Steady" Morley and Jack "Toughman" Vitale opened huge holes the entire afternoon.
The Broncos led by Mike Trainor, James Dougherty and Frank Posillico played a well disciplined, tough game. Their offensive scheme and long drives kept the Jets offense off the field and forced the Jets defense into many mental errors. The Jets defense held with dominating play by Steve "Big Play" Perkins, Darnell "Big Daddy" Benjamin, Brian "The Hawk" Guilando and Alex "Butkus" Greco. Outstanding efforts were turned in by Jordon Cafarella, Andrew D'Ambrosio, Alexander Hoffman, Jordon Jorisch and Eric Knight, who were always there when needed most.
The Chargers offensive attack continued to roll and flew past the Falcons 32-6 Oct. 31. The Chargers scored early on a Tashawn Combs touchdown run an extra point. The Falcons came right back with a long touchdown run by Mike McCauliffe, but the Charger defense, tough all day did not allow the extra point.
Then the Charger offense cut loose with three Jack Kensil unanswered touchdowns set up by the slashing running of Joshua Wilshire and the pounding attack of Mike Vigilante who added an extra point. The offense continued as Kieran McCaffrey busted a 50 yard quarterback sneak for the Chargers final score.
The upfront blocking of Alex Arceri, Gus Kalin, Rob Raymond, Blair Williams and Paul Caltabiano blasted open big holes and Kevin Melia's punishing blocks enabled Charger running backs to post big gains.
The Charger defense continued solid play allowing seven points or less in three straight games. A fine finish as they enter the playoffs.
Saints - 6
Packers - 0
The Saints beat the Packers 6 - 0 in a game well played by both teams. On defense, making tackles all day were Jordan and Kenny Bowers, Sean Killeen, Eric Recine, Mike Vomero, Sal Magaddino, Matt Ryan, Fred Trumpy, Chris Lukas and James Mancari. The offensive line blocked and opened holes throughout the day.
On offense playing great was Joe Tempesta, Jim Bantel, Mike Fenimore, Sean Killeen, Chris Lukas and Fred Trumpy. James Mancari had an outstanding running game today, every time he touched the ball he gained 3 - 4 yards.
James also broke one for 60 yards to score the only touchdown of the game. James Russel, Daniel Deland, Mike Vomero and Matt Ryan also ran the ball today, each one doing well. Daniel and James blocked great on offense when they weren't running the ball.
