The Plainedge Board of Education will hold a Public Forum on its proposed bond issue on Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Plainedge High School Board Room. Residents are invited to hear Superintendent of Schools Gene Grasso and board members explain the details of the upcoming bond referendum scheduled for Dec. 8. Ample time will be provided for questions and answers.
The Board is seeking voter approval of a 10-year bond issue for upgrading electrical wiring to support the district's technology program. The referendum will also include replacement of the fire alarm system and intercom and public address systems at all the schools.
The referendum will not increase homeowner's tax rates. Replacement of the wiring system is included in the district's long-range technology financial plan which is funded within the district's annual budget. The remainder of the funding will come from state building aid reimbursement of approximately 65 percent. Although the bond referendum will not impact tax rates, voter approval is necessary whenever a district incurs long term debt.
