On Oct. 20, 1998, the residents of Massapequa approved a bond issue (2531 for/942 against) to address facility needs, to enhance technology and improve the educational program in our schools. This sent the strong message: Massapequa values education and takes pride in its community.

As the bond issue developed over a two year period, the board was sensitive to the magnitude of the project they were asking the community to support. The community had urged the board to address the needs of the buildings for several years and was encouraging the expansion and acceleration of the technology upgrade plan. By this vote, the community will be providing the children and youth of Massapequa with a safe, healthy and nurturing environment and the opportunity to compete and excel in a global market.

The board understands its responsibility and obligation to the residents of this community. The firms of Turner Construction, as the construction manager, and Wiedersum Associates, as the architect, were engaged to assure the specifications for bids will meet the requirements of each project, stay within budget, attract the highest quality contractors, meet the identified deadlines, assure the safety of our children, staff and community, and not disrupt the educational program. Turner Construction will be the board's agent on-site daily assuring a high level of performance from all contractors and quality material from all vendors. Wiedersum Associates will assist in the development of specifications and the review of bids. Both firms will also work with the board, administration and staff in the final design phase of all projects in order to guarantee the money entrusted to the board of education is protected and well spent.

Thank you Massapequa. Your vote of confidence is appreciated and valued.
