Regarding the release of the grand jury tapes of President Clinton, my concern is not in the political range. It is rather in the future of grand juries. The grand jury is supposed to be secret and not to be released for anyone to make use of. Granted there is a Freedom of Information Act. Still, grand jury testimony is traditionally protected and secret.
My concern is that future grand juries will have a difficult, if not, impossible task in getting information. Even though witnesses are subpoenaed, they still have the right of non self-incrimination. Thus they will use the Fifth Amendment right. We have done this country a terrible injustice for future grand jury investigation. It will no longer have the strength that it had. We have destroyed their strength by releasing the tapes and other information for media consumption.
It is now up to the legislative and representative bodies of the United States to rectify the terrible mistake that has been made.
May God bless them and give them the strength and fortitude to regain grand jury strength. How? I do not know and I shall pray that God will show them how.
