Arrangements were made by the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, Seaford. Samuel Cohen, 74, of N. Massapequa, died on Sept. 7, 1998. He grew up in the Bronx and was a WWII Army veteran who survived the Battle of the Bulge. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from City College and earned his doctorate from Columbia University Teachers College.

Mr. Cohen taught social studies in the NYC schools and on LI. eventually becoming superintendent in Lawrence. He retired in 1979 and became executive director of the NC Council of School Superintendents and the Association of Suburban Districts of NYS. He also advised agencies including the educational division of PBS Channel 13.

Mr. Cohen was the husband of Marilyn. Father of Janet Hurwitz, Alan Cohen and Charles Cohen. Grandfather of two. Arrangements were made by Gutterman's Funeral Home, Woodbury.
