I attended the Sept. 3 school board meeting. The topic discussed was the "Special Education Resource Room." Our director in charge of special education, Mrs. Russo, expressed herself very well in her desire to group her children in the resource room according to their particular learning disability.

I found it deplorable that board member Mrs. Krakoff could be so negative in regard to this program. Why was Mrs. Russo badgered relentlessly with ridiculous questions by Mrs. Krakoff? This interrogation seemed to be based on semantics. Has the majority of the board become so small-minded. Grouping children according to specific need is a "no-brainer." If one had polled the audience, I think it would have been political suicide for Mrs. Krakoff to shoot down this program so instead Mrs. Krakoff chose to shoot the messenger.

Dr. Brucia and Mrs. Russo have extensive educational backgrounds. In my opinion, their judgments on educational issues should not be challenged by Mrs. Krakoff who it seems only has a high school diploma on her resumé. It is obvious Mrs. Krakoff does not have a child in special education.

As a mother of a special needs child I have spent many sleepless nights with worry. Please stop the petty politics. Time is of the essence for these children.
