Four Massapequa Chiefs lacrosse players were chosen to play in the annual Exceptional Senior Games held last week at Bethpage High School. They are All-American HM Attackman Kevin Stephan, All-County Goalie Justin Cynar, and All-County HM Midfielders Peter Anselmo and Terry Campbell.
This honor caps an outstanding high school lacrosse career for these four team co-captains that brought them to the county play-offs only to lose in double overtime to Hicksville. With a record of 11 wins and only five losses, the 1998 Massapequa Chiefs were among the most successful in several years. All four players were recruited by some of the best lacrosse schools in the nation.
Stephan scored a county high of 56 goals to earn All-American HM honors and will be attending the honors program at Ohio State. Stephan was also chosen Massapequa High School male athlete of the year. Cynar, twice all-county selection and NYS Empire Team member, had a save percentage over 70 percent and will be attending Cornell University. He will be joining over 150 lacrosse players from around the nation next week at Hofstra University to tryout for the USA under 19 National Lacrosse Team that will be competing in Australia in 1999. Achieving All-County HM were Anselmo with 25 goals and 19 assists attending University of North Carolina with an athletic scholarship and Campbell with 20 goals and 21 assists, who has already reported to begin his plebe year at West Point.
In recognition of these players' contributions to Chiefs Lacrosse this year, they shared the honor as the 1998 Chiefs Lacrosse team's "most valuable players."
