Five years ago the Nassau County Department of Public Works issued a feasibility study for improving the stream flow and vegetation growth in the Massapequa Preserve. But, like many projects being considered before the recession, the economic crunch on Long Island virtually put the proposal into the wastebasket.

North Massapequa Fire Dept. Installs New Officers
At the North Massapequa Fire Department's Annual Inspection Dinner, held on May 9, the newly elected chiefs of the department were sworn into office. The chairman of the board of Fire Commissioners, Frank A. Nocerino, administered the oath of office to newly elected Chief of the Department Ralph Raymond. Assistant Chief John McCormack, 2nd Assistant Chief Kenneth Blinder and 3rd Assistant Chief Richard Erickson, were sworn into office by Board Vice Chairman John J. Erickson.

MHS Junior Chosen for National Lacrosse Team
Kimberly Thompson, a junior at Massapequa High School, was recently chosen from among over 200 elite lacrosse players from Long Island to play on the National School Girls Lacrosse Team. Kim traveled to Baltimore, Maryland on Memorial Day to play against some of the best lacrosse players in the United States.
