I read with disappointment an Arlene Martin campaign flyer that claimed to tell the truth about Mike DiDonato. The information was distributed by the Massapequa Federation of Teachers. The teachers in each school were asked to walk door to door to distribute these flyers the day before the election.

Union members distributing campaign literature for their candidate is to be expected. But, the information was inaccurate and did not contain anything resembling the truth. The teachers who participated should have realized this was not a legitimate flyer when their union leadership ironically signed it from "The Committee for an Honest School Board."

They also should have been concerned for the two children who were used and lied about in the flyer. Even if the teachers believed the statements were correct, where was their conscience? Could distributing information about a child ever be worth an election?

Union members were also sent a different inaccurate anonymous flyer to their homes (as reported in the May 15 Observer), this time claiming that Mike DiDonato would eliminate their jobs. If the information was truthful why was it sent anonymously? Let's guess... where did the "anonymous group" get the employees' home addresses? It's time for the intelligent MFT members to speak up and make their leadership become accountable for their actions. When they can't legitimately attack a board member for their record, they resort to inaccurate last minute anonymous flyers that refer to individual children.

The only real losers in this process are the teachers whose leadership has proven, once again, they will go to any length to achieve their goals regardless of who gets hurt, even if it's children
