Members of the Biltmore Shores Civic Association met recently with Legislator Peter Schmitt of Massapequa at the entrance way of the Massapequa Preserve. Nassau County will soon be improving the site as a part of a beautification program spearheaded by the Biltmore Shore and Shoreville Park Civic Associations.

Working with the Biltmore Shores Civic Association, Schmitt secured approval of their application to beautify the entranceway to the greenbelt area by the Massapequa Preserve.
Phase one of the project, initiated by the Shoreville Park Civic Association, is now completed with the planting of approximately 18 trees along Merrick Road. The construction of a brick walkway at the entranceway by the corner of Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue has been put out to bid.
"The uniqueness of this project is that it was brought about as the results of complaints from some residents about the entranceway area, and when Nassau County started our neighborhood beautification program, I contacted the Biltmore Shores Civic Association and asked them to apply for a grant to improve this area," Schmitt commented.
The plans for the area have been conceived and drawn by community members, Landscape Architect Kevin McAndrew, who donated his time and professional talents to this project.
The plans include the planting of the trees which is already completed, the installation of a brick walkway, which is out to bid, and the installation of planters and benches in the entranceway area.
"All told, the area will be more attractive, safer and more enjoyable for all of our residents, and I am very pleased to work with the Biltmore Shores Civic Association on this project," Schmitt continued, "Instead of just complaining, members of the Biltmore Shores Civic Association have stepped up to the plate and helped to make Massapequa a better place to live."
