After a season record of 8-8 last year, Massapequa Chiefs Lacrosse is anticipating a powerful return to the 1998 county playoffs according to head coach Steve Mollet. "We have an experienced varsity squad," stated Mollet. "They won the Oyster Bay town summer league and many players received additional training at numerous camps during the summer. We are turning hard working warriors into Chiefs."

The attack will be led by the team's three-year varsity starter and captain Kevin Stephan (1997 HM All-County). Rounding out the attack will be senior Eric LiPuma and juniors Don Femminella, Sean Donnellan and Anthony LaBarbara. Freshman Scott Buckley will provide the varsity with speed and excitement.

The mid-field will be strong with returning senior players including two 1997 All-Leaguers Peter Anselmo and Captain Terry Campbell. Seniors Mike Burkhardt and Greg Damadeo, juniors Greg Economou and Evan Obrien, and sophmore Peter Alosi (2nd year varsity) round out the midfield.

The defense will be young but tenacious. It will be led by senior Jason Romeo and juniors Ed Deegan, Nick Auletta and Mike Rapacki. Rounding off the defense will be sophomores Ray Cole and Matt Mulcahy.

The Chiefs will again be blessed with All-County and Empire team goalie, senior Justin Cynar. Excellent backup will be provided by goalies Michael Draper and Frank Cascino.

"We looked good at our first few scrimmages," stated assistant coach Ernie Olson. "But we have some way to go."

Over the years Chiefs lacrosse has produced an outstanding group of young men who have continued to play lacrosse in colleges such as Harvard, Brown, Butler, Bucknell, Brockport, Hartwick and Qunnipiac.
