In the Village of Massapequa Park, elections will be held for the offices of two trustees on Mar. 17 at Village Hall. Scott Wiss and Bill Van Wagner are running unopposed for their spots, and it seems unlikely that they'll be unseated anytime soon.

But, that doesn't mean we shouldn't vote!

In our democracy, it's very important to show your support for candidates, whether or not they're being challenged. Whenever voter turnout is low, especially at the local level, apathy grows.

If elected officials see that the public is apathetic, then they too become apathetic.

On Tuesday morning, I know I'll be going over to Village Hall to support the two unopposed candidates because I want to send them the message that Massapequa Park residents care about their government.
