Congratulations to the following Massapequa parents on the birth of their babies: John and Ibar McLoughlin (Jaimie Antoinette, 7 lbs. 4 ozs., Dec. 7) and Steven and Doris Ekert (Steven Gerard, 8 lbs. 2 ozs., Dec. 8), born at Mid-Island Hospital, Bethpage.

Lori Rosa Inducted Into Honor Society

Lori Rosa, 21, daughter of John and Nancy Rosa of Massapequa, has been inducted into Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society at Salisbury State University. A 1994 graduate of Massapequa High School, Lori is a graduate student at SSU. She is also involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

Clare Deucher Honored by AARP

Clare Deucher, of N. Massapequa, was awarded with AARP's 1997 Community Spirit Award for her work in helping older New Yorkers in N. Massapequqa. She received her award at a special ceremony in NYC. "Thanks to Mrs. Deucher, New York's seniors have better access to services that help them to live more independently," said David Rogowsky, AARP's regional volunteer director.

Mrs. Deucher volunteers as a chapter specialist for AARP. In that role, she started eight chapters on Long Island in the past two years. She began volunteering with AARP more than 12 years ago as a charter member of the Farmingdale Chapter. She was also a Girl Scout leader for 17 years and was executive director of the Mid-Island Council of the Girl Scouts for four years. In addition, Mrs. Deucher has volunteered for 12 years with the Amityville Nursing Home.
