Manhasset High School Crew Team is Off and Rowing

The Manhasset High School Crew Team made their spring season debut with a strong performance at the two-day Saratoga Invitational in late April.

The Boys and Girls Varsity and Novice teams competed on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, NY against some of the fastest high school and club crew teams from the Eastern seaboard.

All races in the spring are “sprint” races, where the rowers line up against each other in lanes on a buoyed course and start simultaneously, racing to see who can cross the finish line first in either 2,000-meter or 1,500 meter races. This differs from the typical 3-mile “head” races in the fall, where rowers have staggered starts and row for time.

Head Coach/Girls Varsity Coach Hugo Guardado Henriquez, along with Assistant Coaches Chris Mare (Varsity Boys), Stephanie Doughty (Novice Girls) and Dan Kozerski (Novice Boys), were very pleased with the team’s outstanding overall performance, particularly within a field of tough competition.  Manhasset demonstrated success on the water in their 23 individual races, with over 75 percent of the Manhasset boats placing in the top three in their heats and  seven boats placing in the top three in their event and claiming medals:
