MHS Boys Track Having Excellent Season

Manhasset Varsity Boys Track team started their 2010 season with a 6-1 league record – outrunning Hewlett, West Hempstead, Sewanhaka, North Shore, Valley Stream South, Bethpage and losing to No. 2 ranked (Long Island) Westbury.

Running really well and scoring points both in league meets and internationals have been sprinters: Charles Howell (11.3), (23.7); Princeton Palmer (11.7), (24.7); and senior Tyler Yim. Hurdlers: Mario Gagliano (16.7), (62.3); Richard Jean (63.3); Kevin Li (19.2); Danny Merola (66.3); and Alex Kurkumuli (19.9). 400 Meters: Alessandra Troia (53.6); Travis Burger (54.7); and Matt Tam (56.8). 800 Meters: Joe Zahn (2:03.9); Patrick Love (2:05.2), and Andrew Choi (2:08.6). 1600M-3200M: Patrick Love (4:36); Stephen Bourguet (4:47); (10:18), and Charlie Morris (452)-(10:12).

The field events have been very strong especially in the Saturday Invitationals with strong performances in throwing and jumping. Brian Morris (41’)-(111’); Mike Halleran (40’9)-(92.7); and Gary Tibbs (37’8) have led the weight events (shot-put and discus). The long jump, triple jump and high jump have been county-ranked with Stuart Hicks (20’6) (41’2-3/4) (6’0); Kyle Howell (19’5) (43’ 7-1/2) (6’0”); and George Politidis (5’10”).

The team has the Port Washington Invitational (92nd), Divisions, Gold Coast Relays, Counties, and States on their busy schedule.
