Manhasset Wrestling was on everyone’s radar at this year’s County Qualifying tournament at Mepham High School. Manhasset qualified six wrestlers to advance to the county tournament to be held at Hofstra University next week.
In total, eight wrestlers earned All-Division honors. This is a very young squad with only one senior and three juniors on the team. Everyone else is a freshman or sophomore. Freshman Mike Fera was the champion at 103 lbs. Senior Nick Fera took second place with a gut-wrenching loss in overtime in the finals. Freshman Matt Harris took fourth place. Mike Fera, Nick Fera, Matt Harris, Alex Ardito, Max Krauss, and Michael Christopher all qualified for next week’s prestigious Nassau County tournament. Also earning All-Division Honors were Jack Ruggiero and Stephen Fratello. Manhasset High School has never qualified six wrestlers to advance to the county tournament. Coach Di Maria stated, “We are excited about next week and the progress this team has made in general. We think that we can surprise some people next week at the county tournament. These kids have worked hard all year-long and have earned the right to compete in this tournament. I have been trying to convince them all season long that they belong there with the better teams in the county and I think they are starting to really believe in themselves. We work all year-long for this part of the season and it’s going to not only be exciting but fulfilling to see their hard work pay off!”
