Manhasset Varsity Basketball Stands Atop Their Division at 7-2

It has been a very exciting and successful season for Manhasset Varsity Basketball, as their performance has them currently at 11-5 overall and 7-2 to lead their division.

Coached by George Bruns and Stu Goldman, the team is comprised of Anthony Amitrano, Daniel Connolly, Matt Demitroff, Brian Diaz, Mike Graham, Stu Hicks, Ryan Matthews, John Medwick, Nick Melanthiou, Danny Merola, Evan Pupelis, Christian Salvaterra, Gary Tibbs, Matt Tompkins and Alessandro Troia. The team is flanked by a very talented and energetic group of Varsity cheerleaders and a group of high school supporters affectionately known as “The Maniacs.” Rounding off the supporting cast are the parents, who even in the opposition’s gym make it appear that every game is a home game.

To date, Manhasset Varsity has prevailed in their division against Jericho, Malverne, Roslyn and Valley Stream at home and Jericho, Roslyn and Valley Stream on the road. Their two losses came on the road to Lynbrook and a buzzer-beater by Malverne.

Their remaining regular season home game was this past Monday, Feb. 8 vs. Lynbrook.

They open up the playoffs at home on Friday, Feb. 12.
