On Saturday, Oct. 2, at the 39th Annual St. Anthony’s Invitational Cross-Country Race, Manhasset’s varsity cross-country team outran 20 top teams from Long Island, New York City and other areas of New York State.
Manhasset’s varsity team had won this race in 1984, 1995 and 1996. Manhasset scored 58 points, Harborfields 78, Irvington 113, Rye High School 134 and Bronxville 182 for the top five teams (low score wins).
Manhasset was led by All-County runner Joe Nassirian (12) 2nd in race (13:19.60) – 2 ½ miles – 4 K; Charlie Morris (10), (13:48.59) was 6th place; Patrick Love (12), (13:54.70) was 8th place; Stephen Bourguet (9) (14:21.41) was 17th place; Andrew Choi (12) (14:31.17) was 25th place; Jon Thomas (11) (14:33.95) was 27th place and Joe Zahn (12) (14:54.49) was 36th place.
All seven varsity runners received medals, team T-shirts and a championship plaque for their very strong team effort.
The varsity team presently has a 9-0 league record after three league meets and is running very strong as a team.
