On Monday, Sept. 30, the Manhasset Girls Swim Team traveled down the road to take on neighbor and Conference 1 rival Great Neck South. Over the past decade, The Indians and Rebels have squared off in some highly competitive meets as two of the perennial top teams in Nassau County. On this day, the MHS team proved to be too deep and strong for the young and talented GNS team. The Indians took an early lead that they maintained till the end, winning the meet 99-84.
On Friday, Oct. 4, Manhasset swam against a talented Plainview team that featured a few of Nassau’s top individuals. In this meet, the Indians utilized their depth and versatility to defeat Plainview 99-82.
Highlights from the two meets include many season best times.
In the 50yd freestyle: Finola Meyer swam a 31.98; Grace Amato swam a 30.71; Maddy Kang swam a 25.85; Amanda Lopez swam a 29.97; and Maggie Brogan swam a 29.47.
In the 100yd freestyle: Emma Goodwin swam a 1:08.66; Delaney Flynn swam a 1:02.02; Kaitlin Baranello swam a 1:05.57; Jessalyn Chuang swam a 1:07.58 and Rose Marie Donnell swam a 1:01.61.
In the 200yd freestyle: Senior Madeleine Quinn swam a 2:01.70; Katie Margherio swam a 2:19.00; Junior Alexa Durso swam a 2:11.38, and Julia Henry swam a 2:08.75.
In the 500yd freestyle: Marisa Aliprantis swam a 6:44.69 and Giorgia Piantanida swam a 5:36.70.
In other races:
Sarah Henry swam a 1:04.20 in the 100yd butterfly. Nikki Brown swam a 1:17.30 in the 100yd backstroke. Caroline O’Connor swam a 1:14.95 in the 100yd butterfly.
Sophomore Kylie Mulholland swam a 1:11.78 in the 100yd breaststroke. Meredith Johnson swam a 1:04.47 in the 100yd backstroke. Allegra Sodi swam a 2:24.19 in the 200yd IM. Grace Kenlon swam a 1:04.12 in the 100yd backstroke. Ninth-grader Megan Smith swam a 1:02.77 in the 100yd butterfly. Olivia Garvey swam a 1:08.08 in the 100yd backstroke. Eighth-grader Garrity Kuester swam a 2:35.57 in the 200yd IM.
