Manhasset’s High School Crew Team concluded a successful spring rowing season by competing in two Nationals Championship events.
Both Nationals regattas were qualifying events. The team’s performance in NY State Championships qualified 7 Manhasset boats to compete in this year’s Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s (SRAA) National Championship Regatta held on Cooper River in New Jersey in late May. This same performance at NYS Champs enabled 3 Varsity boats to earn one of the bids given to the New York region to compete in the Junior National regatta held in Tennessee in June.
This was the sixth consecutive year that Manhasset High School’s crews qualified for the Scholastic Nationals, a two-day elimination regatta. Special congratulations to Manhasset’s Womens Lightweight 4+ that beat all their competitors, placing 1st and bringing home an SRAA National Gold Medal, along with the Women’s Senior 4+ that placed 2nd and brought home Silver. Along with over 365 crews from 153 clubs representing 30 states, athletes from Manhasset’s High School Crew Team traveled to Tennessee to compete for three days with the hopes of winning a national title. They did not come home empty handed for their efforts on the 2000-meter course on Melton Lake.
As the defending 2012 USRowing Youth National Ltwt 4+ Champions, Manhasset’s Girls Lightweight 4+ claimed Gold and the National Title for their event again this year. After top performances in Friday’s heats and Saturday’s semi finals, Manhasset’s crew battled it out in the “A” grand final against 5 other crews from California, Michigan, Ohio and Georgia, winning by 3.57 seconds following an impressive sprint in the final 500 meters.

Manhasset’s other results at this renowned regatta were very impressive:
