The 2013 Manhasset Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team looks to be talented and deep. Seniors Sarah Barcia (Penn), Kate Conway (Amherst), Alice Coughlin (Trinity), Christina Manis (Bucknell), Emily Markham (Yale), Madison Molinari (Bucknell), and Lauren Procaccino (Washington & Lee); and Juniors Jacklyn D’Alleva (Penn), Cara DePippo (Dartmouth), Julia Glynn (Harvard), Brigid Kenny (Fairfield), Emily Koufakis (Stanford), and Natalie Stefan (Penn) have all committed to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. Under the leadership of Coaches Danielle Gallagher and Meghan Clarke, the team is also ambitious; the girls are out to demonstrate that Manhasset is one of top teams in the nation.
As part of their preparation, and thanks to the support of the Manhasset Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the team journeyed to Maryland during spring break. Highlights from the trip included a 15-4 victory over perennial Baltimore-area power Notre Dame Prep, a tour of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and a hard-fought Maryland-Penn game featuring Halle Majorana (MHS ’12) on attack for Maryland and Meg Markham (MHS ’11) on defense for Penn. The Manhasset girls will certainly have an opportunity to prove themselves as five of the top 20 teams from the Inside Lacrosse Women National High School Rankings that are on their schedule.
The good news for Manhasset lacrosse fans is that all of these match-ups are home games to be played at Manhasset High School. The first of these, against Chatham (NJ), was played this past Saturday, April 6, and resulted in a 14-7 Manhasset win. The other top-twenty opponents that will be visiting Manhasset are Garden City (April 11, 4:30 p.m.), St. Stephen’s and
St. Agnes of Virginia (April 26, 5 p.m.), Farmingdale (May 6, 4:15p.m.), and St. Anthony’s (May 10, 7:30 p.m.). Support the girls in their quest to be the best.
