Manhasset Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Dinner Is May 3

On May 3, the Manhasset Lacrosse Hall of Fame will hold its 24th annual Golf Classic and Induction Dinner at the Plandome Country Club. Since the Hall of Fame was founded, 132 outstanding individuals have been inducted. This year they are proud to honor Tom Campolettano, Maggie Connolly, Connor Denihan, P.J. DiConza, Patrick Gately, and Julia Southard, and the members of the Girls 1988 New York State Champions Team as new members of the Manhasset Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame was formed 25 years ago through the efforts of Harry Baugher, Bill Miller, and Tom Raleigh. Their vision was to help promote, support, and foster scholastic team lacrosse for male and female students in the Manhasset Public Schools. Their goal was to have a function that would bring the participants back together and recognize those outstanding individuals, both players and non-players, who had contributed to the development of the lacrosse programs over the years. Public school budgets provide the majority of funding for the team, but they do not always cover all of the essential expenses for them. Annually, the Hall of Fame assists in covering such expenses from the generous contributions made by the community at this event.

Because of the generosity of the community over the last 24 years, they have been able to direct almost $600,000 back to support the boys and girls’ lacrosse teams. Though the lacrosse teams are major recipients, they have also helped fund turf fields, lighting, and other athletic development projects that support other sports for the student athletes. In the past year, funds have been provided for warmup uniforms, tournament traveling expenses, and additional, but necessary, coaching expenses.

In addition to recognizing the efforts and contributions of each inductee, the evening provides a venue to get together and learn more about the great young people who represent Manhasset on the field, and see up close, their wonderful accomplishments. Please plan to join them and support the home of lacrosse on Long Island, your town, Manhasset.
