On Tuesday, Dec. 20, Manhasset High School celebrated the 2011 Nassau County Boy’s Varsity Basketball Championship by hoisting the banner before a packed house. The ceremony included current seniors and juniors James Clarke, Daniel Connolly, Mikey Graham, Sean Grimm, Mike Joyce, Kade Kenlon, Danny Merola, Brian Reddington, Christian Salvaterra, John Stefan, Alessandro Troia, Liam Young and returning graduates Anthony Amitrano, Nick Melanthiou, John Maimone-Medwick, Gary Tibbs and Matt Tompkins. It’s been many years since the last Boy’s Varsity County Championship and the players should be congratulated on a magical season. Thank you for the memories, we will never forget!
Subsequent to the ceremony, Manhasset Boys Varsity suffered their first defeat to Glen Cove. In a game that saw many Manhasset turnovers, the players battled throughout, being down the entire game, to have a shot to win at the buzzer. In a diving pass from Dan Connolly with seconds to go, Danny Merola took a long three pointer that fell short, giving Glen Cove the victory 63-61. Danny Merola led the scoring with 21 points and 5 threes, Mikey Graham had 15 points, Alessandro Troia had 13 points, Dan Connolly had 9 points and James Clarke had 3 points.
Future games are as follows; Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. vs Lynbrook (home); Friday, Jan. 13 at 4:30 p.m. vs West Hempstead (away)
