The Manhasset Varsity Boys Basketball team led by Coaches George Bruns and Stu Goldman competed in the 53rd annual two day Mueller-Sims Basketball Tournament. On Friday, competing against Valley Stream South (conference opponent), Manhasset won 69–67. Danny Merola led the scoring with 21 pts, Alessandro Troia had 20 pts, Kade Kenlon had 11pts, Mikey Graham had 10 points and Dan Connolly had 7 points.
On Saturday, Manhasset met Our Lady of Lords in the Championship game, defeating them 68–62 to win the tournament. Alessandro Troia had 23 points and 11 boards, Danny Merola had 17 points and 7 boards, Mikey Graham had 10 points, Kade Kenlon had 8 points, Dan Connolly had 6 points and 6 assists and James Clarke had 4 points, Danny Merola and Alessandro Troia were named Co-tournament MVP’s.
Up next for the Varsity Boys are Glen Cove on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and The Chaminade Tournament on Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. and Dec. 28 at either 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. at Chaminade High School.
The Manhasset Varsity Girls Basketball team continued its torrid start moving to a 6–0 record with an exciting 51–49 victory over Garden City to win the Barbara Hoffman Christmas tournament. Halle Majorana led the way with 23 points and was awarded the MVP of the tourney. Ellie Dunlap had 6 points and was named to the All Tourney team while Jackie Albanese (9 points), Kaitlin Miller (6 points) and Julia Comerford (6 points and 9 rebounds) made big contributions. Manhasset beat New Hyde Park in the Tourney opener 69–46 led by Nicole Keiss with 9 points and 8 rebounds and Julia Glynn’s stellar defense and 14 points. The Indians take on Division rival Floral Park at home on Tuesday, Jan, 3 at 4:45 p.m.
