Manhasset PAL registration for the Spring 2012 boys and girls lacrosse is now open at www.manhassetpal.org, continuing more than a half century of service for the youth of Manhasset. Manhasset PAL offers lacrosse programs for grades 1 through 8. Manhasset PAL is a unit of the Nassau County Police Activity League, a not-for-profit corporation to which the Nassau County Police Department assigns officers and otherwise assists in program administration.
The program will begin practices in early March and will complement the scheduling of Manhasset PAL baseball/softball, and will not conflict with the SCA Fair or (for the second graders) first holy communion Saturdays. First grade lacrosse is limited to an instructional clinic seeking to teach the fundamentals of the game and is usually held on Saturday mornings. The second grade program also will have a clinic on the weekend and then an additional session one day during the week. The cost for the program for first and second grade players is $75.
Travel lacrosse (cost $175) is available for grades three through six and involves practices twice a week (beginning around March 1) and games against teams from other town programs on the weekends (travel games will begin around April 1). Intramural lacrosse for boys is also available (on Saturday morning) and encouraged for those new to the game, in particular in the fifth and sixth grade. Enrollment in the travel program also includes enrollment in the intramural program, which is mandatory for boys in grades three through five who are interested in playing in the travel program for their grade. The $175 registration fee covers both travel and intramural programs.
They will once again seek to organize Manhasset PAL travel lacrosse for seventh and eighth grade girls and boys, assuming sufficient enrollment. These programs will not hold practices once the Manhasset school-based middle school programs commence.
The Manhasset PAL lacrosse programs are available to members of the Manhasset community, including students who attend school in Manhasset. As spring is the only season of lacrosse, participation is conditioned upon choosing to play lacrosse over out-of-season sports and club lacrosse.
Manhasset PAL conducts its activities for lacrosse through permits obtained for the fields from the Manhasset UFSD. Manhasset PAL is appreciative of the cooperation and assistance provided by the Manhasset UFSD together with the support provided by the Manhasset Community Club.
In order for your child to be considered for the travel program, registration must be completed by the end of January 2012. Intramural and clinic registration will be open through April.
