The Adelphi University golf team opened up play in the fall of 2011 at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, New Jersey. However, the real story is not the opening of the men’s golf season, but the fact that the Panthers have two players who hail from the same Long Island hamlet of 8,300 residents, Manhasset.
Both juniors Michael Driscoll, Jr. and Bennett Linsky came to Adelphi from Manhasset, yet while they may reside in the same Long Island town, they came to Garden City using two different routes. Linsky attended Manhasset High School and was one of Nassau County’s best high school golfers, while Driscoll attended Salisbury School and then Lynchburg College, where he was a member of the golf team.
Driscoll also set foot on campus a year earlier then Linsky, transferring to Adelphi University in the spring of 2011, while Linsky became a Panther this fall.
Driscoll and Linsky have converged at Adelphi University helping the Panthers to several top-10 finishes this fall, including a third place showing at the Northeast-10 Championship.
Adelphi will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with appearances at the Philadelphia University Invitational and Goldey-Beacom Fall Invitational before setting their sights on qualifying for the 2012 NCAA Golf Championships with the help of both Driscoll and Linsky.
