Diane Whipple Foundation Annual Lacrosse Tournament

On Sunday, Oct. 16, the Diane Whipple Foundation will host its Annual Lacrosse Tournament at the Harbor Links Complex in Port Washington. This fundraising tournament brings together girls lacrosse teams from across the tri-state area for a great day of lacrosse competition and camaraderie in memory of an outstanding Manhasset lacrosse player and beloved coach, Diane Whipple. This year’s tournament also commemorates the 10th anniversary of Diane’s untimely death.

The Diane Whipple Foundation is a 501c-3 non-profit organization that was established seven years ago by teammates, friends and family members of Diane Whipple in remembrance of a great lacrosse player and wonderful spirit. Diane was a 1986 graduate of Manhasset High School where she was starting attack wing on the team that won the New York State Championship in 1985.  She was Manhasset’s second High School All-American. She went on to play for Penn State, where she was a four-year starter and was an integral part of winning two National Titles in 1987 and 1989 and was an All-American in 1989.   Diane went on to coach lacrosse in California at the high school and college level.

The Foundation seeks to continue Diane’s legacy and commitment to furthering the sport of women’s lacrosse by providing financial support to young women who wish to elevate their lacrosse skills by participating in camps and club teams. Scholarships have been given annually to girls all over Long Island, with over $22,000 awarded this past summer. Additionally, the foundation has also made gifts to St. Mary’s of Moraga College in California where Diane had been coaching.

Sponsorships are still available as well as tickets for the Grand Raffle and Chinese Auction. Please consider supporting this wonderful event. Further information on the tournament as well as the foundation may be found on their website, www.dianewhipplefoundation.org.
