Class “C” State Champions

Second Year in a Row

Determination, intensity and skill were what it took for the Manhasset Indians to go all the way this year. The Indians, who ended their season with a 20-0 record, took not only the Nassau and Long Island Class “C” Champion titles, but went as far as becoming Class “C” State Champions for the second year in a row.

The Indians started their winning streak when they came face to face with the Seaford Vikings on May 26, beating them 19-3. Determined to win this game, the Indians headed onto the field with the most intensity this season. It was a tough start as the Vikings made an attempt to keep up with the Indians, trying to keep them out of their half as much as possible. But this challenge didn’t stop the Indians from applying twice as much pressure on the Vikings, eventually leading to a key turnover by defenseman, Bobby Duvnjak, putting the Indians one step closer to their first goal, scored by Pat Moroney. From then on, it was smooth sailing for the Indians as they were able to place 18 more shots in the back of the net before the end of the game. Scoring for Manhasset on Wednesday were: Chris Cook (3), Kevin Katzman (3), Drew Belinsky (2), Matt Tompkins (2), Quinn Moroney (2), Pat Moroney (2), Harry Kucharczyk (2), Michael Heenan (1), John Tompkins (1), and Kevin Grimm (1). Frank Morelli had six saves and Zack Gunzburg had four.
