Now that the holiday season is in full swing, it might be a good time to take some time out – get away from the hustle and bustle of shopping, parties, cooking, and all the things we do to celebrate the season. What, you say? Take time out now? Are you crazy?
Manhasset Wrestling had its best finish ever in the Herricks Tournament, scoring 56.5 points which is almost triple their highest finish ever of 22 points. There were two champions, brothers Mike Fera (freshman) and Nick Fera (senior).
Now that the holiday season is upon us, a really great story has emerged and is appropriate for this time of year. It’s all about wishes that just may come true. Imagine for a moment, what it would be like to sail with the best of the best.
Each year approximately 60 senior state qualifiers from all regions of New York State apply for one of the most prestigious awards given to a swimmer or diver.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, at SUNY Plattsburgh, the Nassau County Championship Manhasset Boys Cross-Country team ran the state Cross-Country Championship against all the states “B” schools.
Maverik Lacrosse is proud to announce that its founder and President John Gagliardi (Johns Hopkins University ‘97—Defense), co-founder and Marketing Director Jay Jalbert (University of Virginia ‘00—Midfielder), Director of Operations and partner Kyle Sweeney (Georgetown ‘03 — Longstick Midfield) and legendary Johns Hopkins midfielder and Maverik soldier Paul Rabil (Johns Hopkins University ‘08) have all been named to Inside Lacrosse magazine’s “Team of the Decade,” as detailed in the December ‘09 issue.
Inside Lacrosse magazine explained the “Team of the Decade” as, “the greatest hypothetical team ever assembled.” Criteria for inclusion on Inside Lacrosse magazine’s “Team of the Decade” was based on a combination of subjective and objective criteria and voted upon by the staff and contributors to Inside Lacrosse magazine. The voters considered each player on field performance and what each player meant to the fans of lacrosse over the last 10 years.
The ISAF Sailor of the Year awards are recognized as the highest honor a sailor can receive in recognition of his/her outstanding achievements and this year’s official award ceremony took place Nov. 10 in Busan, South Korea at the Busan Yacht Club in Haeundae-gu. The winners of this esteemed award for 2009 were Anna Tunnicliffe (USA) and Torben Grael (BRA).
Tunnicliffe is no stranger to success. In the past 12 months, she set her sights on a variety of challenges across a range of boats and disciplines: she won the gold medal for the USA in the Laser Radial at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the first U.S. Women’s Olympic sailing medal in 20 years, and has kept herself busy ever since, sailing not only the one-person Laser Radial, but also a Snipe alongside her Match Racing commitments.
The Manhasset Girls Cross Country Team moved up this season to conference three which contained schools with a larger student population. The team finished the regular season with a record of 11 wins and 2 losses.
Saturday, Nov. 7 at Bethpage Park, the Manhasset Boys Cross-Country team won their 10th county championship. The team has won four titles since the year 2000 (’03, ’05, ’08, ’09).
