What are your children, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren doing this summer? For economically disadvantaged families the end of the school year is a challenging time. With little or no money for summer camps, working parents find themselves asking, “who will care for my child?”
The Manhasset/Great Neck EOC has the answer—a 6-week full day summer program for 75 youngsters, ages 5 to 13.
In recent years we’ve held an annual dinner and published a journal to raise the $600 per child that we need to run the program. The combination of money raised at the dinner and the support of local foundations, community based organizations, and individual community members is what has made it possible for us to pay the counselors and group leaders, buy supplies and equipment, provide meals and snacks, and pay for special programs, activities, and trips that introduce the children to new ideas, support their learning, and encourage their creativity.
This year we’ve taken a realistic look at the economy, our community, our organization, and what we will need to once again offer a quality summer program. We feel that it makes more sense to spend every dollar we can on the program itself rather than on the dinner and the costs associated with it.
We would like to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to those of you who have responded so generously to our recent appeal for donations to support the Manhasset/Great Neck EOC’s 2010 Summer Program. To our other friends and neighbors we ask that you consider a donation at this time to help with the costs of supplies, equipment, and/or trips. Tax deductible contributions payable to the Manhasset/Great Neck EOC can be sent to my attention at 65 High Street, Manhasset, NY 11030. Thank you, in advance, for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
