My brother and I recently found out that Port Washington is possibly building a skate park. http://www.antonnews.com/portwashingtonnews/news/7802-port-residents-urge-tonh-to-build-skate-park.html). As young skateboarders in Manhasset, we have struggled to find suitable places to skate and are very happy that a skate park may be coming here soon.
My dad and I built a mini ramp in our backyard but the neighbors don’t like how it tends to make a lot of noise.
We’ve tried to skate in town, and at the schools, but we usually get told to “get lost” or worse by owners worried about safety liability or property damage.
We don’t think skateboarding is a “fad.” In fact, it seems like it’s getting more and more popular by the year. New York City is opening a huge new skate park this week at Pier 62 on the Hudson River, and when we go out to our grandparent’s Hamptons house, there are many different skate parks to choose from within a 20 minute drive.
Even if you don’t skate, we urge you to support Port Washington in its efforts to get a skate park built. Everyone will benefit by having local skaters out in an area where they can skate freely without having others bothering them as well as them bothering others.
