(Editors note: This letter was sent to the Town of North Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals and to the Manhasset Press for publication.)
I am writing on behalf of the Strathmore Village Civic Association to oppose a variance for signage for Apple Computer at the property located at The Gate and Northern Blvd.
Zoning is put in place to protect the character of the community and the property values of existing businesses and homeowners. As the majority of the homeowners in our community do not support this request we ask the board to reject this proposal.
The SVCA is charged with protecting the integrity of our community and the property values of our residents. We believe that the granting of this request opens the door for other entities to put forth similar requests citing this variance as a precedent. Further limiting the signage to that which is permitted by the Town code does not pose a significant hardship to the applicant.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Patricia McDonnell Samela, President
Strathmore Village Civic Association
