Thinking about summer immediately brings to mind books. To me, summer reading is one of life’s sheer delights! And where better to think about browsing– even for downloadable e-books and MP3 Play-aways! – than at our own library. We are so fortunate to have such a gem of a resource in our Manhasset Library. It has been my honor and pleasure to have served as the president of the Friends of the Library this year. The Friends is a group of volunteers interested in supporting the library and creating public interest in the programs and facilities of the library. With my dedicated fellow board members, we are passionate about our mission to “enhance the community with library programs that encourage activities and education relating to the arts.” In that role, we help coordinate the library budget vote, underwrite the cost of the many exercise classes offered in the Community Room, maintain our “Fabulous Family Giving Tree” and donate funds to the library. This year we are pleased to announce our gift of $10,000 to the library!
Andrew Carnegie’s belief that “a library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people” resonates with me. With his guidance in mind, I invite each resident to become a Friend of the Library member. You will immediately feel more connected to the library and to the more than current 350 members. The happiness of being a Friend of the Library is contagious! So, click our link on the library’s new website: http://manhassetlibrary.org/friends or pick up a membership flyer in the vestibule when you next visit the library. You’ll be glad you did!
