I sent a letter to our councilwoman, Poons, on March 20 concerning street sweeping in North Strathmore. Additionally I sent her an email reminder on May 7. I have not received a reply. So on June 4 I sent a letter to her boss the North Hempstead supervisor, Kaiman, concerning this issue. (This letter was at my request published in the Manhasset Press of June 11.). I have not received any communication from him either.
What possible reason could there be for such an affront. Even if Poons and Kaiman decided that my suggestion was ridiculous most elected officials would at least send a reply more or less saying: “Thank you for your suggestion. We will be looking into it.”
Recently I got some indication of what was up. A week or so ago I saw on TV a story concerning a serious problem in North Hempstead. The persons had repeatedly reported the problem to their North Hempstead Councilman and to Supervisor Kaiman to no avail. They then contacted our Nassau County Executive, Suozzi. And guess what happened? Yes our North Hempstead team jumped into action.
What concerns me is the arrogance of these people. What else can it be? Maybe they are overworked and don’t have time to consider suggestions on how to save taxpayer money. But then I see Councilmen and Supervisor Kaiman available for photo shoots of even the most trivial event.
Incidentally I do not take this personally. Rather I am of the belief that the problem is probably endemic and if pervasive must be acted on by the voters.
